Health Professions Education Research Scholars (HERS)

The next cycle of the HERS program will begin in the Fall of 2022.
Please stay tuned for further details!

High-quality education research is dependent upon those that deliver the education to also have the capacity to design and execute rigorous research programs. To meet this need, the TEACH academy has developed an interdisciplinary health professions education research curriculum. The goal of this curriculum is to produce excellent education researchers in the health professions, through didactic and experiential sessions. In addition, participants will complete a mentored education research project of peer-reviewed quality.

The Health professions Education Research Scholars (HERS) program is a monthly all day session (18 sessions total) with content from the Medical Education Research Certificate (MERC) program, developed and offered through the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), plus an experiential project in which participants are actively mentored through the development and execution of a scholarly research project.  A competitive selection process will be used to identify program participants.

Participants will be required to protect one designated day per month, with support of their department, to devote to participation in the HERS program.  Upon completion of the program, participants will receive their MERC certification from the AAMC.

Along with submitting an application, participants must document Chair support with a signed Requirements and Expectations document found below.

This 18-month intensive, mentor-guided program will both improve the execution of health professions education at Carillon Clinic and contribute to national and international academic research on health professions education.
